“Superhero Intersex” met the audience on November 8

Inter Solidarity organized the pre-screening of Tuğba Baykal’s documentary “Superhero Intersex” with three intersex activists.

Inter Solidarity organized a pre-screening of Tuğba Baykal’s documentary “Super Hero Intersex”, shot with three intersex activists, on November 8, Intersex Solidarity Day, with the presence of the director and the heroes of the documentary.

On the evening of November 8, activists, LGBT families, academics and curious viewers showed interest in the pre-screening held in Ankara with the support of May 17 Association. After the screening, Tuğba Baykal, the director of the film, and intersex activists Şerife Yurtseven and Belgin Günay, who took part in the documentary, answered questions. Yurtseven and Günay were accompanied by intersex activist Gülkan Noir. In the documentary, Aslı Yasemin Bahar, Belgin Günay and Şerife Yurtseven draw attention to the rights violations, medical abuse and life experiences of intersex people through their own lives.

Director Tuğba Baykal pointed out that with this documentary she wanted to show not only didactic information about intersex but also the deep bond and solidarity between intersex people. Baykal said that this solidarity has affected her and that she is happy to take such a step to increase intersex visibility. Baykal stated that the documentary is actually still in production and will continue to meet with the audience in different places, and that they found it meaningful to hold such a special pre-screening for November 8th Intersex Solidarity Day.

The documentary screening continued with a cocktail after the conversation.
